Current events will be your life; being able to understand them, discuss them with others, reference different occurrences, and write about aspects concerning certain events is vital.

Building up a portfolio that can be submitted along with an application showcases your work and different abilities to potential employers. Writing will also help you develop your grammar, spelling, and structure skills. In the journalism world, getting your writing perfect the first time through is a great skill to have. Sometimes, your work may go live the second after you complete the piece, and there will be no time for spell check or editing.
